Beginner Supply List

Supply List:

  • Fabric –3 yards of 43-45″ width fabric -preshrunk (washed and dried at home)  Fabric width and content are printed on the end of the bolt. You can usually/hopefully double check with the person at the cutting table. Light to medium weight woven cotton or flannel (knits, silky, fleece and plaids NOT recommended) {JoAnnes, Hancocks, House of Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, etc.} 3 yards will give most people a little of extra.
  • Spool of matching (disappears into printed side of fabric) general purpose or Sew All thread (Not Sulky or 100% Cotton or other specialty threads)
  • ¾ – 1″  wide elastic for waistband (if elastic waist is desired) and/or ribbon (if desired) for draw string tie.
  • Basic sewing kit (best to put one together yourself – pre-packed ones are generally cheap and flimsy):
    • Dressmaker pins (small pins with plastic ball heads)
    • Shears/scissors (suggested brands: Gingher, Fiskars)
    • Measuring tape
    • Seam ripper
    • Empty sewing machine bobbin
    • Sewing machine and pedal/power cord
